Choisya 'Goldfingers'

Choisya GOLDFINGERS ('Limo' PBR) is a new shrub registered under Plant Breeders Rights that has been bred by PLANTS subscriber Peter Moore who is Assistant Manager and Propagator at Longstock Park Nursery in Hampshire.

It's a cross between Choisya ternata SUNDANCE ('Lich' PBR) and Choisya arizonica which has taken ten years and thousands of seperate hand crosses and thousands of seedling evaluations before just one golden seedling was produced.

It has long fingered foliage in a deep yellow shade showing off its parentage well and it makes stunning new addition to the garden.

It has been bulked up by several UK nurseries since last year and will be available from mid-late summer in the UK in small numbers with just 5,000 plants for sale.

It was first seen publicly at the 2000 Chelsea Flower Show stand of the NCCPG, where I actually bumped into Peter and met him in person for the first time!

He was justly proud of his fine breeding work and hopes that it would be as succesful as his other Choisya, 'Aztec Pearl' which PLANTS celebrated with a nostalgic look back on its tenth anniversary (PLANTS Volume 5 Issue 1 Page 18).

The propagation, PBR and promotion has been undertaken by Peter Catt of Liss Forest Nursery who, co-incidentally, was the discoverer of the golden shoot which was to become Choisya ternata SUNDANCE (Lich PBR) - small world!

It was launched officially at the Woking Nursery Exhibition at Merrist Wood College near Guildford in Surrey, England.
