Buxus m. 'Faulkner'

Buxus microphylla 'Faulkner' was spotted in Europe by longtime plantsman Cliff Comstock .
What immediately caught his eye was the brilliant green colour and extremely shiny leaf.

He was intrigued by its unique habit -- while many Buxus tend to have an upright shape and need to be pruned, Faulkner has a highly unusual dome-like growing habit.

The shiny, dark-green oval leaves are densely packed, making it an excellent specimen plant and it's spectacular when used for hedges, massing, topiary work and formal gardens.

This very slow compact grower works beautifully in terracotta containers and looks great in coloured pottery containers.

Lightly scented, creamy yellow flowers in clusters appear April to May and it will reach three feet in height and spread when mature.

Planted in well-drained soil it responds well to mulching and should be grown in full sun to light shade.

'Faulkner' is hardier than most of the species but it's important to protect it from drying winds and severe low temperatures.

USDA Cold Zones: 5-9 AHS Heat Zones: 6?11
