 Gaura lindheimeri 'Siskiyou Pink'Gaura lindheimeri 'Siskiyou Pink' originated on the Siskiyou Rare Plant Nursery in Oregon USA as a chance seedling. Owner Baldassare Mineo recognised its potential as a new colour break and agreed a marketing deal for the UK with Blakedown Nurseries MD Mike Dunnett. The plant was protected and marketed in Australia, and New Zealand as well as across Europe from 199-2000 onwards. It is a bushy perennial which is happiest in full sun and well drained soil growing to perhaps 60 cm tall. The flowers open deep pink from rich red buds and stay on the plant as they fade to white giving a lovely two-tone effect. The dark green foliage has red veins and attractive red mottling and edging. It looks good in a large terracotta pot or it will do well in the right conditions in your herbaceous border and flowering can be extended by a frequent policy of dead heading.
